Freak Parade at the Triad Lounge August 3rd, 2001

Great nite last night with two generations of Utopians sharing the stage (okay - not at the same time) - but it was a love fest. The show was a big success with Freak Parade doing our thing with "Freak Parade" and "Utopia theme" in the first set. Followed by Kasim doing a lot of the old stuff - "Set me Free" "Here Comes My Inspiration" and even "It wouldn't Have Made Any Difference" - and stopping when he missed a chord to explain it was Todd's fault! "If he doesn't know how to play his songs, why should I?" said the Kas man to great laughter.
       We even got some pix with Kasim, Kevin and I to show the world the glow of the Ikon emanating from the Triad Lounge. Kasim was all good vibes and loved the band - he said we should do more gigs together and even back him up on some of the old classics.
         Also at the show was Anthony Michael Hall, who is in comeback mode himself. The Freak Parade performed "Crazy World" from our album, which I co-wrote with Hall. It was featured in the Hall/Downey Jr flick "Hail Caesar" .
        To make it a perfect nite, in walked Buzzy Linhart for the late set, after having just gotten off a plane from Berkley, Cal. I hadn't seen the guy in 7 years and he has a long white beard now (no kidding!). But we had a blast doing our songs, "You gotta have Friends" and the newer "Fountain of Youth", for the many folks who hung out into the third hour of our show. Buzz caught fire and wouldn't stop singing til they kicked us out of the club sometime before dawn.
