Michael Amante
Michael Amante, one of the most talked about upcoming American tenors on either side of the pop/classical divide, creates buzz among everyone who hears his voice.  Backed by his extensive fan base and rave reviews, momentum continues to build behind this inspired artist.

Amante’s debut album, self-titled, Michael Amante, topped Billboard Magazine’s 2002 charts at #1 for Top Midline Classical Artist, and #5 for Top Midline Classical Album.  The Album was widely recognized, and Amante has been hailed as “The Fourth Tenor,” by entertainer, Regis Philbin and “The next Mario Lanza” by artist Tony Bennett.  The New York Times declared that this “swashbuckling Italian tenor exhibits both the voice and charisma of a cross over star.”  The Philadelphia Exclusive confirms that “Amante rewrites the book on anyone’s idea of what a tenor can be.”  The New York Post dubbed Amante as “the golden-voiced tenor.”

Amante followed his chart topping album, in 2003  with “Tell Her I Love Her,” a blend of song styling that reflects the fun, romantic music Amante excels at performing.  After releasing “Tell Her I Love Her,” Amante began production on his most personal album entitled, “Humbled,” which reflects Amante’s dedication to Judeo/Christian ethics and traditional family values.

Amante’s latest album is “Just for Christmas”, it was released in December 2004.  The album includes some of Amante’s dearest holiday tunes, including The Birthday of the King/Oh Holy Night, Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee, Joy to the World, and Oh Come Emmanuel.  The album is available only at performances and through mail and web orders.

Amante is also currently recording a new album targeted for release in Summer 2006.  It will breathe romance and is sure to be another chart topper.

Amante is one of the most versatile and gifted performers anywhere, as he is able to sing iin a variety of languages including Italian, Spanish, French, German, and Latin.  He also regularly records and performs a mind blowing array of styles from High Classical to Pop/Rock, to Gospel and Broadway.

Not only has Amante performed to sold out audiences across the country, including The Stardust Casino and Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, The Sands Casino in Atlantic City,   Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, New York City’s Lincoln Center and Town Hall, and Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, he has also given performances to countless dignitaries including former US Presidents Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Pope John Paul II, Luciano Pavarotti, Sophia Loren, Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, and Julia Roberts, to name a few.  In addition, he has performed for a myriad of nationally televised sporting events and at well known arenas including Camden Yards, Shea Stadium, Madison Square Garden, Foxborough Field, The US Open, The Belmont Park Raceway, and Giants Stadium.

Amante has appeared on “Live with Regis Philbin,” ABC’s “The View,” “The Best Damn Sports Show, Period” with Tom Arnold,  “Fox 5 Morning Show,” “The Tony Danza Show,” and “Emeril Live.” His PBS special, entitled “Michael Amante” received a regional Emmy Award nomination and has been used by Public Broadcasting to raise tens of thousands of dollars during their annual pledge drives. Moogy Klingman performs in the new Bon Jovi video
,"Welcome to Wherever You Are"
for sooned to be released single.

Yes, folks, you heard it here first. Friday, Aug. 12th, 2005 - I played two different characters who play the keys in the new Bon Jovi video. Titled "Welcome To Wherever You Are", it's a big, hit bound track that we filmed on the lower east side of Manhattan. Down on Pitt Street and Ave D with a film crew of at least 100 people, it sure seemed like a big deal.
I got to play keyboards made up as a Napolean type and as a person in a plastic anti-germ outfit, complete with goggles and earphone type head gear. Included here are two pix of me from the shoot. Watch for it soon!

Remembering
Joel "Bishop" O'Brien
1943 - 2004

Moogy Music remembers John Siomos (1948 - 2004)
who was a good friend and one of America's greatest rock drummers.

The same years that Todd was with the Nazz, I was with a group called the Glitterhouse. Now available at my website is the CD "The Glitterhouse - the almost complete recordings, 1966 to 1975"  - This almost forgotten group came mostly from my hometown, Great Neck. The drummer from Great Neck was good friend Joel O'Brien. He later went on to play with James Taylor in the Flying Machine and on Jame's first solo album for Apple records. Joel also played with Carol King on many of her early albums including "Tapestry", the biggest selling album of the early seventies.
The leader of the Glitterhouse was Mike Gayle, also from Great Neck. He wrote, sang and played lead guitar on most songs. His greatness as a songwriter and musical force cannot be emphasized enuff.  Like Lennon/McCartney, James Taylor and John Sebastion, his good time songs defined the era we lived in then. Mike was like a big brother to me and taught me about songwriting than anyone else in my life.
In 1967, the Glitterhouse were discovered by America's hottest record producer, Bob Crewe, the man behind Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. When Bob signed us he had 5 hits in America's top ten by five different artists!!! Though we were and oil and water mix - the recordings that we made together were classics and must be heard as they were timeless in their beauty.    Also on the CD are several songs that the Glitterhouse performed from the soundtrack of the movie, "Barbarella". Also early singles, demos and even some reunion trax. Check out the Glitterhouse at www.moogymusic.com  with complete songs and samples and a full history of the band with reprinted liner notes from the CD.

Some emails reviews on the last gigs of Moogy's band
*******************
Moogy, wow, I really meant it, you guys were stupendous the other nite!  Way better than I ever thought it was gonna be though of course I knew it would still be great.  I'd give you guys an A plus and you know me already, pretty candid when it comes to music!
What I noticed mostly though at first, my first impression was that you guys could have played this gig with your eyes closed and your hands tied behind your backs!  Just seemless and flawless-effortless! very cool.

I was soooo glad you just kicked the crap atta the piano rather than layin back!  That was so cool and I looked over at Ito and saw he was getting a kick out of it too!  You sounded just great, really!  I was also thinking, where else can you see a rock show where the keyboardist is playing on a grand piano!  Wow, how rare is that nowadays! As always though you inspire me with your playing!

The singing was awesome and in this band context I really saw how your voice is really best in that kind of "rocked-out" setting. Talk about tight! yikes!  The drumming, Denny is so strong and don't know if it's just your band but he had this folk-rock shuffle thing going and his arm movements reminded me a bit of Max Weinberg with that swing-style Louis Bellison thing happening!

I also really enjoyed your MC bits.  Funny and a real showman!  Oh yeah, and at the end, that ballad you played and sang, was so touching and poignant, and I could feel this really nice vibe in the audience.  We could tell you sang your heart out!

So das da scoop!
Hope I get to see you guys play again sometime!

Later,  David

Hey Moogy! -  I had a blast at your show.  Thanks for all the fun.  I especially enjoyed your interpretation of "maggie's farm", and appreciated your song writing talent, in your abreviated original song list.
You managed to slip in the political message with plenty of edge in "Outlaw",  Good show!
If I did not already know you and I had just dropped in for that show, I would be looking for the next performance, so that I could hip a friend.  I want to see it again.
When the CD is ready, I'll buy it.
Encore!!

Steve

Hi folks,
<>

At the end of the month on a Saturday nite, my Rock 'n Roll Circus will come to town down at the A & M Roadhouse and I'll be offering three rings of rock fun. For this special nite, I'm going to have some legends in rock playing with me including two of Rock's greatest singers and performers. Ian Lloyd and Tommy Cosgrove.
Ian had the #1 hit single with his band Stories, called "Brother Louie". Tommy Cosgrove was Lesly West's replacement in the Vagrants as lead guitar and lead singer. He also replaced Robbie Robertson (of the Band) in the Ronnie Hawkins band. He became a legend after doing two albums with "Brethren" and has played and sung with Dr. John, Todd Rundgren and Eric Clapton.
Tommy, Ian and I have recently played at the Cutting Room to a packed house and these guys are great! Don't Miss This!!
The A & M Roadhouse is a great room with a laid back southern truckstop feeling, and cheap southern chicken and ribs. ...........Moogy

hat's right - more new stuff is coming. New and old CD's and DVD's coming online - plus stories and songs from and about people I've worked with recently and in the near and distant past.

When I brought RDj to Sting, that started the ball rolling that resulted in Robert's record deal and friendship with both Sting and Elton John. And people like Anthony Michael Hall and Al Pacino.  Michael, has recorded a great deal with me over the years and Al Pacino who was in every sense, executive producer for the Beverly D'Angelo sessions I did last year. Some funny stories there.........So check back soon for "new stuff".

Hi Folks,

Joel "Bishop" O'Brien, who is very sick with liver cancer,  is one of the more amazing musicians I've worked with and been friends with. He's from my home town, Great Neck, but many years older than me, I only met Joel after we'd both moved to NYC from Long Island. He was with NYC's hottest band at the time, "The King Bees". Joel became a friend, musical mentor and teacher.
When Joel and Kooch (Danny Kortchmar) left the King Bees and formed a new group called "The Flying Machine" with a 17 year old James Taylor, I became an unofficial mascot for the band. I got to go to rehearsals, hung out almost nightly at their gig at the Night Owl in Greenwich Village and attended many post gig get togethers at Joel's house on Charles street, where Bish aka the Bishop (Joel's nickname) held court on all things musical.
In addition to being a great drummer, Joel is also an amazing jazz pianist, jazz flute and alto saxaphone player and a great singer and acoustic guitarist of old country and C & W songs. No kidding. Joel is a walking encyclopia of music.
When the Flying Machine broke up, Joel joined my band, "The Glitterhouse" and recorded the historic album "Colorblind" with me and the band, as produced by legend Bob Crewe. Joel then joined James Taylor in England, where he played drums on Jame's first album (For the Beatle's Apple records). And Joel got to record with Paul McCartney and George Harrison on various Apple projects including Jackie Lomax's first apple album.
Joel then played drums on the James Cotten Blues album that I produced with Todd Rundgren.
Moving to LA, Joel began working with Carole King on her solo albums, including the "Tapestry" where Joel played drums on most of the album and on her hit single, "It's Too Late". Forming "Jo Mama" with Danny Kooch and Ralph Schuckett, Joel recorded two albums for Atlantic with them and together they toured with, backed up live and continued to record with James Taylor and Carole King.
Joel's influences on the music scene in general and James Taylor and Carole King specifically was profound. Always teaching and preaching about various types of music (mostly jazz and various American Roots music) Joel's influence was as a teacher as well as a musician.
As close friends thru the 60's and the 70's, Joel was an always loyal friend and mentor. We've stayed in touch over the years as Joel went on to play and record with many artists over the years. Now, Joel is a full time jazz pianist/vocalist.
As you can read in the email below, Joel is very sick. Any help you can give him, financial or moral ( an email/letter of support, even)  would be greatly appreciated.

Here it is folks, my rambling revue of "Moogys' Nightout with The Acid Test Band!" I just couldn't get my thoughts straight after that show, but I'll try now. The ATB KICKS ASS! Wow what a talented trio, and a very nice bunch of guys to chat with. TZ Keys and I had a great talk. The band is flawless, tight, and will surprise you with everything from Deep Purples' "Hush" to Arthur Browns' "Fire" I couldn't wait to hear what they'd play next. Julie and I joined up with Ralph(Utopia Massage)and his friends to enjoy the evening and we chatted with Moogy after he arrived from Manhattan by bus to where else? How about a town whos initials are....are you ready for this, it just occured to me...TR! (How about that, Weav!)By now it was time to enjoy ATC Meets MOOGY! I'll run the set list by you now: The Load, Gloria, Utopia Theme, Dust In The Wind, Ballad of John And Yoko, Get Back, Ya Got To Have Friends, Hey Joe/All Along The Watchtower, Ain't That Kindness. The performance was incredible, the audience was blown away by Utopia Theme, and the night ended with everyone there, whether in the crowd or on the stage, saying what a great night it was! As far as I'm concerned I'll say I was in the right place at the right time! TZ, My hats off to you man, thanks for a special night and hope to see you soon! JR(From TR)

8/20/03 "American Juniors" on FOX-TV climax the series with a Moogy Klingman/Buzzy Linhart song - "You gotta have Friends"!
listen to song
Subject: "You've Got To Have Friends" on FOX  Congrats Moogy! "You've Got To Have Friends" wassung as the
finale on FOX TV! While I was channel surfing (a few minutes ago) I locked onto  the final song for the final  American Juniors (The American Idol Counterpart for kids) show of the series. This newly created  group (which is comprised of AJ's 5 finalists) sang a  nice rendition of "You've Got To Have Friends". So approximately 7 million  viewers  (many of whom were most likely under the age of 20) heard  Moogy's upbeat song (many for the very first time). It wouldn't surprise  me if AJ's producers decide to put it their album.  Given the large (built in) teen and pre-teen following, AJ's  album will minimally go gold (by default) and possibly platinum. This would introduce a whole new generation to Moogy's excellent song on tour and on CD.

"As the show draws to a close, Ryan thanks all the kids who had the  courage to come out and audition, "you are all stars!" Then he says  he will see us in January for American Idol! The kids finish off with "You Gotta Have Friends" as we see footage  of the five kids who didn't make the band, Morgan Burke, Katelyn  Tarver, Jordan McCoy, A.J.       Yes, folks, I'm pitching my tent for a revival meeting at the Triad, Sunday, March 14th. A rock 'n roll revival, that is! Classic sounds of the 70's.....and even the 60's!
As a piano playing rock 'n roll relic, I started out playing with Jimi Hendrix and moved on to recording with Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck on the Free Creek album. Soon after that I was writing  Bette Midler's theme song, "You gotta have Friends" with Buzzy Linhart and playing and recording with Todd Rundgren. Todd and I formed the  group, Utopia together, using mostly my band, Moogy and the Rhythm Kings. I started recording solo albums for Capitol and EMI, and now record solo and group albums for my internet label. Moogymusic, at www.moogymusic.com

Also playing in an extremely rare appearance, will be Andy Pratt, who's classic 70's albums on Columbia and Nemporer Records gave birth to that 70's hit, "Avenging Annie". Andy has been in Europe for many years and has come back to America with some new album releases on Musicforall.com. Andy has been jamming with me at my place and as a great piano player, he and I have been making some cool two piano jams which we will share with you at the gig. www.andypratt.com

Also on the bill with me and Andy Pratt will be Stewkey's Nazz. The Nazz made 3 albums for Atlantic in the late 60's and they were Todd Rundgren's first band. They had several hit singles including "Open My Eyes" and "Hello, It's Me". Stewkey was the lead singer then and now he's back these several decades later. With Roy Goldberg and Otto on stinging guitars, Stewkey's Nazz rocks! www.Stewkey.com

This is going to be a great nite at a great club. So join us and you'll have a great time, I promise.

Review by Mike A.
if i had to sum up in one word last nights show with moogy's freak parade and special guest Stewkey and solo performance by godrey Townsend. it would be WOW..

if moogy does this agin everyone has to show up for it.
As far as last nights show... Moogy opened up with some of his solo songs. ( this guy is a great song writer).. then tons of todd tunes .. an outstanding set of nazz songs. a with a twist set. more utopia stuff  and godfrey clapton like solo set. and to close the show a house raising version of the utopia theme.
everybody seemed to really enjoy the show.. Moogys band rocks they do as good or better versions of the old utopia band..  some of the songs.. the ikon, freak parade, a amazing version of the utopia theme to close off the night...  i dont have a complete set list  but i'll post it laster this week after i view the video..
I hope moogy does this type of show more often. it was amazing...
  mike a

Freak Parade opened the show with a song I wrote with Anthony Michael Hall called
 1. "Crazy World" from the freak Parade CD.
 2. "Village Voices" my song about songwriters from the village, followed with a story about how I met Todd (for the 1st time) in the Village.
 3. "Conquering of the West" which I wrote and was the climax Ho-down piece from the "Ikon"
 4.  "Dust in the Wind" which I wrote for Something/Anything with comments about the fact that Guns and Roses are now doing it!!
 5. "Crying in the Sunshine" which was a duet that I sang with Todd on my first album on capitol records only with Julie Eigenberg now, instead of Todd.
 6. "Ladyface" - one of my songs that Todd recorded for 'Back to the Bars' but it only just came out now, on a Japanese import.
 7. "Freak Parade" the song..... from the first Utopia album - an epic piece I co-wrote with Seigler and Rundgren
 8. "Only the Outlaws are Free" - from the FP CD. my anti-war song.....
 9. "Never Never Land" the wizard/true star way - with me playing the original piano part (without band) and singing Todd's vocal
 10. "Never Never Land" the 'with a twist' way with Julie Eigenberg singing and the band in a bossa mood
 11. "I saw the light" 'with a twist' with Julie singing it.
 Break of about 15 minutes

 12. "Under the Ice" with Stewkey and the Freak Parade
 13.  "Open my Eyes"        "                           "
 14.  "Kiddie Boy"                "                         "
 15.  "Hello, It's Me"              "                          "
 16.  "Wildwood Blues"            "                        "
Stewkey was in top shape and drove the crowd wild! Lots of standing ovations for this man's return to the stage. Stewkey stayed onstage and sang backup on the next two numbers.
 17. "Bang the Drum all Day" I sang this one with Stewkey doing great backups!
 18. "You gotta have Friends" my most famous song (co-written with Buzzy Linhart), with many friends jumping out of the audience and singing along.

 Godfrey Townsend solo

 19. "It Wouldn't really Make Any Difference" at the piano, no less, and he sang and played it quite well.
 20. "Hey, You've got to hide your love away" Godfrey at the guitar, singing the Beatle song that Todd had done for two summers with the Abbey Road tour. A duet with me at the piano
 21. "Bell Bottom Blues" Godfrey solo and flawless.
 22.  "My Generation" Godfrey with the FP band...and a moment of silence for Mr. Entwhistle.
 23. "Sunshine of your Love" Godfrey and the Freak Parade - the man can do Clapton better than Clapton........!
Godfrey leaves the stage and the Freak Parade rocks out with a 20 minute version of
 24. "Utopia Theme"........ amazing solos by bass and drums.......
End of show.......  around three hours of music.

Everyone had a great nite. Bruce Gatewood on guitar - was quite amazing, Julie Eigenberg on harmony and lead vocals was fine. Special kudos to Kevin Ellman and Even Steven, who rocked the Utopia songs and Nazz songs like you never heard.
Stewkey and Godfrey gave their all and the audience loved it.

 Utopian Salutations,

 Moogy Klingman

                      A Todd Rundgren tribute nite
                 ***********************************************
Utopia meets the Nazz meets the "Abbey Road" Tour!

Freak Parade (with Utopia vets, Moogy Klingman and Kevin Ellman),
Julie  Eigenberg - vocals, Even Steven - bass, Bruce Gatewood - guitar
Stewkey (lead singer of the Nazz) &
Godfrey Townsend (from Todd's Abbey Road tour & the John Entwhistle band)
at the Triad Theater, 158 w.72nd st, NYC. Weds. October 2nd, 8 pm
Admission ten bucks. For reservations call 212 724 0242
or email me at MOOGYKING@aol.com - seats still available!

This is really a Todd Rundgren tribute nite! With alumni from his
two bands, Utopia and the Nazz. Freak Parade's Moogy Klingman (that's me!) &
Kevin Ellman were in the original Utopia. Godfrey Townsend is a great lead
guitarist and singer who just finished the second of two summer tours with
Todd & the Abbey Road tour.
Stewkey was lead singer for the Nazz, who released three albums on
Atlantic in the late 60's. Todd Rundgren was leader and guitar player for
both the Nazz and Utopia (who were nominated to the R & R Hall of Fame in
2000). Stewkey has recently been rehearsing his music with various ensembles
and has recently released an EP. Stewkey hasn't performed publicly in over a
decade, so this is going to be a historic moment in Rundgrensque history.
Stewkey sang lead on the Nazz's two top 100 hit singles - "Open My
Eyes" & "Hello, It's Me" (pre-TR version)
Moogy wrote "Dust in the Wind" on Todd's platinum
"Something/Anything", and co-wrote Bette Midler theme song, "You gotta have
Friends". Moogy also co-wrote Utopia's Freak Parade & the Ikon. Moogy's song, "LadyFace" was just released this year by Todd Rundgren for the first time, on his latest Japanese import, though it was recorded 24 years ago!
Julie Eigenberg, who sings in Freak Parade, will also be singing
some "with a twist" versions of Todd songs.
Godfrey Townsend will performing Rundgren songs, Beatle & Cream songs
and a special tribute to his late band leader, John Entwhistle of the Who!
Godfrey, who has toured with Todd for the past two summers, as part of the
"Abbey Road" Tour, also had been lead singer and lead guitarist for the John
Entwhistle Band for many years! Later in October, Godfrey will also play with
the Jack Bruce band at B.B. King's in NYC.
Godfrey will play and sing some Rundgren songs, like "It Wouldn't Have
Made Any Difference" and  "A Dream Goes On Forever".
And he'll do a special tribute to the late John Entwhistle with songs
like "My Generation" (which Todd sang on the last Abbey Road tour) and
"Behind Blue Eyes" Godfrey will sing the Beatles, "Hide Your Love Away" which
Rundgren also sang on the Abbey Road tour.

       Stewkey sounded great at rehearsal

Having not seen Stewkey since I used to jam with Todd at the Nazz's
house in Great Neck, in 1969, it's been a brief 33 years since our last get
together. But Stewkey looked great and sounded great as we went over all the
old Nazz songs he's going to be doing at his first show in many, many years.
His first ever, doing the old Nazz songs since the band broke up.
Still having those golden tones and still being able to hit all the
high notes (in the original keys!) of the old songs, Stewkey's voice is
undamaged and clear. He's a very sweet guy and is looking forward to Weds
nite, when he makes his historic return to the stage.
Freak Parade  is doing an able job backing him up. Bruce Gatewood never
sounded better than doing all the old Todd guitar leads. Kevin Ellman, of
course, is doing great on the drums. With Julie Eigenberg and myself on
backups and me on the keys, we're giving Stewkey a full sound with some
Utopian influence.

Utopian Salutations,

        Moogy

Come to Moogy's historic Rundgren tribute show!!

Godfrey Townsend has graciously consented to fill in for Kasim Sulton at the historic Oct. 2nd Todd Rundgren tribute show. Godfrey, who has toured with Todd for the past two summers, as part of the "Abbey Road" Tour, also had been lead singer and lead guitarist for the John Entwhistle Band for many years! Later in October, Godfrey will also play with the Jack Bruce band at B.B. King's in NYC.
Godfrey will play and sing some Rundgren songs, like "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference" and  "A Dream Goes On Forever".

Godfrey will also do  some Clapton/Cream stuff like "Sunshine of your Love" and "Bell Bottom Blues". Jack Bruce was also on the Abbey Road tour this summer and Godfrey certainly honed his Clapton chops by playing all the old Cream songs with Bruce. Godfrey's Clapton tribute show in August at B.B. Kings was sold out!

This is really a Todd Rundgren tribute nite! With alumni from his two bands, Utopia and the Nazz. Freak Parade's Moogy Klingman (that's me!) & Kevin Ellman were in the original Utopia and Kasim Sulton was part of the second wave of Utopians as well as being Meatloaf's bassist, chief backup singer and opening act.
Stewkey was lead singer for the Nazz, who released three albums on Atlantic in the late 60's. Todd Rundgren was leader and guitar player for both the Nazz and Utopia (who were nominated to the R & R Hall of Fame in 2000). Stewkey has recently been rehearsing his music with various ensembles and has recently released an EP. Stewkey hasn't performed publicly in over a decade, so this is going to be a historic moment in Rundgrensque history.
After Moogy's Freak Parade, Kasim Sulton and Stewkey all do their own sets, they will all perform together doing some of their old greatest hits!
Stewkey sang lead on the Nazz's two top 100 hit singles - "Open My Eyes" & "Hello, It's Me" (pre-TR version)
Kasim wrote and sang lead on Utopia's biggest hit, "Set Me Free".
Moogy wrote "Dust in the Wind" on Todd's platinum "Something/Anything", and co-wrote Bette Midler theme song, "You gotta have Friends". Moogy's song, "LadyFace" was just released this year by Todd Rundgren for the first time, on his latest Japanese import though it was recorded over 24 years ago!

Even Steven-bass, Julie Eigenberg-vocals, & Jim Satten- guitar,

Special surprise guests-!! Don't miss it!
After my band, Freak Parade backed Buzzy Linhart on the Buzzy/Moogy mini-tour in May and June, I was immediately thrown into a lead role in the independent film, "The Rodnees - We Mod Like Dat!" Director/writer Lindley Farley cast me in the pivotal role of William D. Kapplemeyer, historian and stalker of the "Rodnees", South Bronx's answer to the Beatles.
Lindley saw me onstage with "Freak Parade" and knew I'd be right for this role and I've always wanted to be a movie star, so it was like a very low budget version of my dream come true. So, my birthday gig is also going to be a wrap party for the movie, "the Rodness" too.

It's also a movie wrap party for,
"The Rodnees - We Mod Like Dat!"
A new movie written/directed by Lindley Farley & starring Moogy Klingman.

Buzzy Linhart is back! After playing the Bottom Line last month in a star studded tribute to Buzzy himself, the Buzzman is at the Cutting Room Weds. nite at  11 pm for one show only! Backing Buzzy will be his longtime co-hort Moogy Klingman at the grand piano. Also Bruce Gatewood on the guitar, Even Steven on the bass, and Andy Began on the drums.
Buzzy Linhart lives in Berklee, California, but established himself as an east coast legend through his many albums and tours in the 1970's - Together with Moogy Klingman, they wrote Bette Midler's theme songs "Friends".

Buzzy Linhart played in bands backing up Tim Hardin and Fred Neil. Buzzy also played vibes on many albums for people like John Sebastian and Jimi Hendrix.
Buzz started playing guitar and singing and writing songs in the late sixties, and made a big impression with his first band, the Seventh Songs. Soon Buzzy was singing and playing as a solo act and causing quite a sensation. He got signed to Mercury and put out an album in 1969 for that label. Buzzy had a series of great bands and gave a great show.
He was signed to Karma Sutra and put out a series of albums for them in the early seventies. In the mid seventies Buzzy had an album out on Atlantic as well, with many of his records being re-released through out the late 70's and early 80's in "greatest hits" formats.
Buzzy was always known as an amazing performer. He would run around the stage switching from guitar to vibes, playing long extended jams, and was known as a powerhouse performer, sweating off pounds every show and doing sets as long as two hours. He built a huge following on the East Coast (even selling out Carnegie Hall!) and could easily be said to have been the "Bruce Springsteen of the early seventies"!
Buzzy's unique combination of jazz, folk and rock made him an innovator and influence on many who came after him. His singing could go from rock to blues to jazz scat in any 24 bars of a song! His songs were covered by people like Bette Midler, Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, and the Roche Sisters.
Though Buzzy sightings became rarer thru the eighties and nineties, he still is a great singer and performer. CD releases have recently come out featuring Buzzy. "The Buzzy/Moogy sessions" is music recorded from 83 to 94 with Buzzy Linhart and his buddy Moogy released on the Internet label Moogymusic.com. Also released on CD in 2001 was "Buzzy Linhart Loves You" a retrospective of Buzzy's 70's recordings on Razor and Tie.

A report from Moogy....
Hi folks! - Monday, April 22nd was a great  nite. A near capacity crowd stayed completed enthralled for the nearly five hour concert/celebration Buzzy Linhart concert.  With Dave Amram, Eric Andersen, John Hammond,
the Moogy Klingman band, Will Lee, John Sebastion  &- Phoebe Snow
and tributes from WBAI's Bob Fass & producer Hendrix producer Eddie Kramer, the performers gave their all in their individual sets and when they teamed up for group jams.
One of high points was when Eric Andersen sang the Elvis hit, "That's Alright, Mama" with Buzzy on vibes, John Sebastion on harmonica, David Amram on flutes, Jimmy Vivino on guitart, Will Lee on bass, Kevin Ellman on drums, and Moogy at the grand piano. Once the Buzzman hit the stage he put on a two hour show with a 15 piece band!! that had the crowd mesmerized.  I'll go into more details in another post, but let me say that warm glow of that success will also shine on all those who come to see Buzzy and the Moogy Klingman band this friday at the Cutting Room, a really nice room to see music in.

Buzzy Linhart is a rock legend and the guy I wrote "You gotta have Friends" with. Buzz started out in the early sixties as Greenwich Village's leading vibes player. He played in bands backing up Tim Hardin and Fred Neil. Buzzy also played vibes on many albums for people like John Sebastion and Jimi Hendrix.
Buzz started playing guitar and singing and writing songs in the late sixties, and made a big impression with his first band, the Seventh Songs. Also released on CD in 2001 was "Buzzy Linhart Loves You" a retrospective of Buzzy's 70's recordings on Razor and Tie.

David Amram is a legendary music personality who has stradled the worlds of music from jazz to classical. He was a pivital collaborator with such great jazz personalities as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Charles Mingus. His musical   collaborations with Jack Kerouac and the beats are well known and Amram has just written and had published a book, "Offbeat" about those times.
A great classical composer and movie soundtrack writer ("The Manchurian Candidate" and "Splendor in the Grass" among others) David is also a great jazz multi-instrumentalist and singer. His improvisational singing and scatting are a miracle to behold.

Richard Belzer is a great comedian and actor. Star of television's long running series, "Law and Order", he made his claim early on, as one of the most outlandish
and radical comics. His many films, TV and nightclub appearances, as well as HBO specials, have made him one of America's most beloved funny men.

John Hammond Jr. is one of America's great white blues singers. Having started recording albums in the mid-sixties, he worked with great musicians in his band and on his records. Before anyone knew who people like Jimi Hendrix and Robbie Robertson were, they were playing with Hammond. He has recorded and released over 30 albums and his newest release is a collaboration with Tom Waits on Virgin.

Moogy Klingman co-wrote "You got to have Friends" with Buzzy Linhart back in the old daze. Moogy has had solo albums released on Capitol and EMI records and recently started an internet CD label featuring his music new and old, (as well as
collaboration with Buzzy Linhart). Moogy was a founding member of Todd Rundgren's Utopia and recorded over a dozen albums with Todd and Utopia in the seventies. Moogy has produced albums for such artists as Bette Midler and James Cotten and even produced a song with Bob Dylan. Moogy's songs have been recorded by Ms. Midler, Carly Simon, Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Johny Winter and Barry Manilow among others.
Moogy has been a recent fixture on the NY music club scene playing gigs with the Moogy Klingman band and his Utopia tribute group "Freak Parade", who's new CD can be found at Moogymusic.com.
Moogy is proud to be producing the Buzzy Linhart celebration/benefit.

Will Lee is perhaps, the most well known bass player in America and also considered by many to be one of best on his instrument. He has played and recorded with everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE. He is most well known for being the bassist for the David Letterman show for about the last 20 years.
Will is also a great singer and has had several solo albums released. He will be singing some songs as well as backing up other artists at the Linhart event.

John Sebastion is one of America's greatest pop songwriters. With his band, "The Loving Spoonful", he wrote and sang at least a dozen top ten hits, frequently knocking the Beatles out of the top spots on the charts. Songs like "Do You Believe In Magic", "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind", "Summer in the City" "Daydream", and solo hits like "Welcome Back", have made Sebastion's music as well loved as anyone's in the history of popular music.
A great harmonica player, Sebastion was jamming on his harp in Greenwich Village in the 60's where he met Linhart who was jamming on the vibes. Only later did these two guys (who backed up everybody down there) start singing and writing songs. But when they did, ........ the rest is history.

Phoebe Snow was just a high school student, when she met Buzzy Linhart and started coming to his recording sessions. Phoebe's blue, jazz scat style does owe something to her days listening to Buzzy sing in the recording studio. Of course, it was during the mid seventies that Phoebe broke out with "Poetry Man", her number one hit which was followed by many others.
Her beautiful recordings are matched by her incredible live vocal stylings. An amazing singer, who's pyrotechnical approach to singing has made her a much in demand studio singer who has worked with everyone from Paul Simon to Steely Dan.
With any luck, Phoebe and Buzzy will sing a duet at the Buzzy Celebration that alone, will be worth the price of admission.

Bob Fass is radio host and producer of "Radio Unnamable", his long running show on  WBAI. Bob has been on the air for over forty years and is considered the father of free form radio. Bob was the first to discover and put on the radio live, many acts, including Bob Dylan, Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie and of course, Buzzy Linhart.
Moogy Klingman has had the privilege to appear often over the years as a guest on Bob Fass's "Radio Unnamable".

Eddie Kramer started out in England as an engineer for people like the Beatles, Lead Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones, but soon went on to become a producer/engineer for many Jimi Hendrix albums as well as for Kiss, Carly Simon and, oh yes, Buzzy Linhart. Eddie is now the exclusive producer/engineer for any and all Jimi Hendrix releases that have come out over the last ten years.

It was almost three years ago that I started playing out regularly again at small, intimate clubs around Manhattan. I have doing my songs for friends old and new since then. Last month at the Triad (I have been playing there the first Friday of every month for a while now) we had another great crowd.
It was great to have Bob Fass from WBAI's Radio Unnamable and John McDunna from WBAI's Radio Free Eiren show up Feb. 4th. These two guys are great on-air radio hosts and I was honored to be invited to perform on both their shows last month.
Some folks who came to see us Jan 4th, were back in February, including Grammy award winning cubana guitarist/vocalist, Juan Carlos Formell and Tommy Mandel (Keyboard man for Bryan Adams and Dire Straits). Tommy even sat in with us for a great gospel rocking climax!
And some new recording artists like Emiko - who's new album is starting to get lots of airplay-  have been showing up lately as well. And don't miss new backup vocalist Johanna Fee is doing some beautiful duet work with me this Friday.

Well, we've been rehearsing and the band sounds great. The band is going to all four part vocals and with new guitarist wizard Bruce Gatewood adding vocals along with new vocalist Joanna Fee, so we're getting a really big vocal sound.
Lots of friends have already confirmed that they're coming down. Watch for Bob Fass from WBAI's "Radio Unnamable". Bob came down a few months ago and intro- duced us to the audience for our second set. This is (in part) what Mr. Fass said: "This is the Moogy Klingman Band. I'm a great fan of the Moogy Klingman band. They can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. They make you want to get up and dance and wiggle your belly button. So do it!".
Also, a real rock legend has promised to come down tonite and not only watch the band but sit in!! I can't tell you her name (what if she doesn't show up!) but I can say this: She has had a "poetry man" as part of her legend!

Hi Folks!
It's gonna be me at the grand piano with my new band again. Last month we had another great crowd and did two sets with new guitarist and background singer, Bruce Gatewood. He blew some minds with his solos, and if any of you are guitar freaks, check this guy out! Julie Eigenberg is doing more singing and people love her jazzy bluesy stylings as well. With Freak Parade/Utopia alumni Kevin Ellman and Even Steven, laying down the bottom, we got our groove on, you know?
We're doing all new material from my forthcoming moogymusic CD- "Paradise Road". This is softer than the Freak Parade (my Utopia influenced band), and features lotsa harmonies from the great singers in the band.
Folks are also digging our newest song, "Have  you seen my Brother?", a ballad about folks searching for their loved ones after the destruction of the World Trade center.
And of course, the Moogy/Buzzy song that became Bette Midler's theme song is still wowing the crowd, "You gotta have Friends". Ellman takes a drum solo on this and if you don't remember, Kevin Ellman was the drummer on Bette's first album including all those hits, "Friends" "Do you wanna Dance" & "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".
Lotsa folks came to see us Jan 4th, including Tommy Mandel (Keyboard man for Bryan Adams and Dire Straits) and Grammy award winning cuban guitarist/vocalist, Juan Carlos Formell.

December 2002
Hi folks,
It's me, Moogy. This Friday, at the Triad Lounge, I'll be performing with all new songs at the grand piano with beautiful four part harmonies brought to you by myself and three amazing singers, Julie Eigenberg, Margaret Dorn and Ellen Bernfeld. With Kevin Ellman on drums and Even Steven on bass (those Freak Parade guys!), it's going to be a very soothing and musical friday nite.
The songs are all from my forthcoming CD "Paradise Road" (soon available at Moogymusic.com).  Some tunes are new and some are songs that I have been stored away waiting for the right time. The harmonies are beautiful and these singers are the best in the business. Between Julie, Maggie and Ellen, they've sung for everyone in the music business on record and live -(from Aretha Franklin to Bette Midler and Luther Vandross  to Jennifer Lopez!)
So it is going to be a soft, harmonious evening with me at the grand piano. Don't miss it! Even a holiday song or two snuck in!

Hi Folks!
Just a quick report on Freak Parade's fundraiser for Ladder 25. As some of you know, Ladder 25 is on w. 77th st. and lost 9 of their 27 members at the Twin Towers collapse. Freak Parade did a show on friday, oct. 5th for them, and shared the bill with David, the guitarman from central park and Jon Paris. The show was a great success. It was packed to the rafters and even 5 or 6 members of Ladder 25 showed up to see the show. As a special honor, Ladder 25 parked their fire truck in front of the Triad, where the benefit was held, for most of the nite.
The guys from Ladder 25 were great guys and happy to have a music concert and a place to remember their brethren for the nite. One guy told me he personally knew 50 firemen who were lost at the towers. 340 brave firemen vanished there.
It was a big nite and I'd like to thank everyone who gave of their time and energy, or who just came down to watch the show - We all made it happen and the good vibes and unity were there.
We raised over a grand for Ladder 25 and got to hang out with them and thank them for the brave deeds they did.  It was a great nite.

Moogy

Hi folks!
It's been a tuff few weeks since the twin towers were hit by two airliners and crumbled into a mountain of dust and concrete. The six thousand fellow New Yorkers who were lost there have been on my mind most of the time. Ladder company 25 is just around the corner from my house at 77th st. off Broadway.  They are also the Fire House for the Triad at w. 72nd street as well. Ladder 25 lost 9 Firemen down at the World Trade Center. Nine guys who heroically helped others escape the burning buildings as they themselves did not. So Friday, it's a benefit for them. Please come down!
Special guests will be David Ippolitto, that Guitarman from Central Park. You gotta see this upper west side legend. He raised $7000 for Ladder 25 on a recent week-end just playing in the park with his guitar.
Also blues/rock legend Jon Paris will be doing a late set. He's in Bo Diddley's band now, but also worked with Johny Winter for many years. Don't miss him!

songwriter vibe with his weekly Tues. nite open mike at Even Steven's
Gaslight and he and his band are great! Find out more about Shelly at
